No Need to Crane Your Neck

Once upon a time, there was a crane who yearned to fly. Every day, it would watch in awe as other birds soared through the sky, their wings effortlessly gliding through the air. The crane longed to experience the freedom and beauty of flight.

The crane made several humorous attempts to fly. It would flap its wings with great enthusiasm, but instead of soaring, it would stumble and crash into the ground. Undeterred, the crane tried different strategies, imitating the movements of other birds, hoping to unlock the secret to flight.

As noted, the hummingbird method proved to be too exhausting. And her new Air Jordan’s offered little assistance, as well. No matter how hard she tried, the crane could not take to the skies.

One day, the crane came across a group of wise, old birds who had experienced similar. But not exactly the same struggles in today’s Zonr post. Still, they shared their wisdom. Telling the crane that the key to flight was not found in imitation, manipulation, or artifice.

But in trust and surrender. They explained that the crane had to turn its will and life over to the sky. The sky is a power greater than us all. She must trust that it will not let her fall. But to rely on her instincts and divine guidance instead.

Inspired by this advice, the crane embarked on a new journey. And decided to let go of its need for control and perfection. She understood that the process of surrendering was not an event but a gradual unfolding. Whenever the crane felt tempted to manipulate the situation or force its wings to fly, it remembered its decision to trust in the sky.

The crane learned that it didn’t have to achieve 100% compliance or perfection. She discovered that only the first step toward flying requires complete admission of powerlessness to the whims of the wind and the moon above. In contrast, the subsequent steps offered perfect ideals to strive for. The crane embraced her imperfections and setbacks along its journey. Understanding that growth came from persistently remedying mistakes and starting each day anew.

With patience and self-compassion, the crane began to trust its own instincts and the guidance to trust in a power greater than herself. It no longer sought to imitate or force its way into flight. Instead, she surrendered to the natural flow of life and the wisdom instinctual within her wings.

And so, one sunny morning, as the crane stood at the edge of a cliff. It took a deep breath and spread its wings. With a newfound sense of trust and surrender, it leaped into the air, feeling the wind beneath its feathers. In that magical moment, the crane experienced the joy and freedom it had always longed for. She soared through the sky, embracing the beauty of flight. And the harmony between its own nature and the divine order of the universe.

The fable of the crane reminds us that sometimes, our efforts and desires can hinder our progress. That our manipulations to the point that we ‘crane’ our necks to succeed are often to no avail.

This tale teaches us the importance of surrendering control, embracing imperfections, and trusting in a higher power. Through patience, self-compassion, and the willingness to begin anew each day. We can find the courage to let go, take flight and soar.
